A quick orientation to the awning on your MoveMobility vehicle: how to open and set it up, what to do in rain and wind, and how to close it properly.

This short orientation shows how to open, set up and close the awning on the passenger side of your vehicle. It gives patients and staff a covered space outside the van.

Key Points

  • Take it slow whenever you open or close the awning.
  • The crank handle is stored on the partition behind the driver's seat. Hook it onto the awning loop at a 90-degree angle so it can't scratch the paint or wrap.
  • Crank the awning out slowly. When it's about a metre out (a little over three feet), stop and lower the support legs, then crank it out the rest of the way.
  • Before you start seeing patients, set both legs to the same height and anchor them with the hooks or stakes that come with the awning. Use tie-downs too if you have them.
  • Wind can pick up fast, especially in open spaces. If strong wind, heavy rain or snow is coming, close the awning.
  • If it starts raining and you need the awning out a little longer, lower one side slightly so the water runs off instead of pooling on top.
  • To close it, take the anchors out and raise the support legs. Make sure the feet of the legs sit properly inside the lead bar housing, or the awning won't close properly. Then crank it in slowly and check that it's fully shut before you drive away.
  • If you put the awning away wet, open it back up within 12 hours to let it dry. That stops moisture stains.
