A quick orientation to the front winch on your MoveMobility vehicle: how to power it on, get the cable out, winch safely and put everything away.

This short orientation walks through the winch on the front of your vehicle. It's handy if your van or another vehicle ever needs a pull, and it covers how to power it, use it and put it away properly.

Key Points

  • Turn on the winch power first. The switch is on the panel behind the driver's area, and the winch won't work while it's off.
  • The controller lives in the glove box. Take the cap off the socket on the winch and plug the controller in.
  • The freewheel knob on top of the winch sets the spool. Turned toward the back, the spool is free so you can pull the cable out by hand. Turned toward the front, the motor is engaged, which is the position you need before you winch anything in.
  • You can pull the cable out by hand in freewheel, or power it out by pushing the controller switch to the right. If you power it out, keep pulling on the cable so it stays tight.
  • Always keep tension on the cable when it's going in or out. Without tension, the cable loosens on the spool and tangles.
  • Hook the cable to the vehicle or anchor point, then turn the freewheel knob back to the front to engage the motor. Keep everyone well clear of the cable while the winch is pulling.
  • Push the switch to the left to spool the cable in, guiding it back and forth across the spool so it wraps evenly, with tension the whole way in.
  • When you're done, unplug the controller, put the cap back on the socket, return the controller to the glove box and turn the winch power off. The controller isn't waterproof, so never leave it plugged in or wrapped around the winch.
