Mobile Clinic Generator Safety Checks Before Startup
If your mobile clinic came with an onboard generator, it's designed to power the clinic when you're away from shore power and need more than the batteries alone can provide. Yours is a Honda inverter generator, and it includes a safety feature called CO-MINDER that shuts the engine off automatically if it detects unsafe carbon monoxide levels. In this video I'll walk through the safety checks, how to start and use the generator, and how to shut it down properly at the end of the day. Before you start the engine, take a minute to set up safely. The generator has to operate outdoors — never inside the clinic, a garage, or any enclosed space. Give it at least three feet of clearance on all sides, and point the exhaust away from people and away from any vehicle openings, windows, or doors. Unplug any equipment that's already connected to the AC outlets so you're starting with a clean load. Then check your oil and fuel levels. Both should be full before you start. Running low on either can cause hard starts, uneven power, or engine damage over time.

How to Start a Mobile Clinic Generator Safely
Follow the startup sequence in order. Turn the fuel vent ON and switch Eco Throttle OFF. Set the choke to closed for a cold start, or leave it open if the engine is still warm from earlier use. Turn the engine switch ON. Pull the starter grip slowly until you feel resistance, then pull it briskly. As the engine warms up, open the choke gradually. Give the generator a minute to settle into a steady idle before you start plugging things in.

Using Eco Throttle and Adding Electrical Load Safely
Confirm the output indicator light is on, then connect your equipment to the AC outlets and power devices on one at a time. Adding load gradually helps protect both the generator and your equipment. Once everything is running steadily, you can switch Eco Throttle ON. Eco Throttle adjusts engine speed to match power demand, which makes the generator quieter and more fuel-efficient during lighter, steady loads. Keep it OFF whenever you're starting up or running heavier equipment.

How to Shut Down a Mobile Clinic Generator Properly
When clinic operations are finished, shut the generator down properly. Unplug all connected equipment first. Turn the engine switch OFF. Let the generator cool fully before you move it or cover it. Then turn the fuel cap vent lever OFF.

What to Do When CO-MINDER Shuts the Generator Down
If the CO-MINDER safety system ever shuts the generator down mid-use, move it to fresh air, keep the exhaust clear of enclosed spaces, wait about 30 seconds, then follow the normal startup process again. That covers day-to-day generator use. Your generator also needs regular oil changes, air filter cleaning, and periodic service based on operating hours; those details are in your welcome guide. Questions fréquemment posées :

1. Can I run my mobile clinic generator inside the clinic or a garage?

No. The generator must operate outdoors and should never run inside the clinic, a garage, or another enclosed space. Keep at least three feet of clearance around it and direct the exhaust away from people, windows, doors, and vehicle openings.

2. Should Eco Throttle be on when starting the generator?

No. Keep Eco Throttle OFF during startup. Once the generator is running steadily and handling lighter, consistent loads, you can turn Eco Throttle ON. It should also remain OFF when running heavier equipment.

3. Why should I plug equipment into the generator one device at a time?

Connecting and powering devices one at a time adds the electrical load gradually. This helps protect both the generator and the equipment connected to it.

4. What should I check if the generator is hard to start or produces uneven power?

Check the oil and fuel levels before starting the generator. Low oil or fuel can contribute to hard starts, uneven power, and potential engine damage over time.

5. Can I move or cover the generator immediately after shutting it off?

No. After unplugging the equipment and turning the engine switch OFF, allow the generator to cool completely before moving or covering it. Then turn the fuel cap vent lever OFF.
