What Is the London Community Foundation in Ontario?

The London Community Foundation is a charitable foundation that connects donors with local projects that make communities stronger.

Since 1954, it has supported work across:

• The City of London

• Middlesex County

• Oneida Nation of the Thames

• Chippewas of the Thames First Nation

• Munsee-Delaware Nation

The foundation funds local ideas that respond to needs such as health, housing, food access, education, inclusion and community wellbeing. 

What types of funding opportunities does the London Community Foundation support?

The foundation offers several grants and awards. Two programs may be worth watching for larger community projects:

• Community Vitality Grant: Supports major, multi-year projects that improve systems, address service gaps or create lasting community change.

What are the conditions of the funding opportunities?

Important conditions include:

• Applicants usually need to be a CRA-recognized qualified donee.

• Groups without this status may be able to partner with an eligible organization.

• The project must mainly help people within the foundation’s service area.

• Community Vitality projects must show clear results, strong planning and meaningful involvement from the people being served.

• Community Vitality does not fund land purchases, building purchases or new construction. 

How much funding is available?

• Community Vitality: Up to $350,000 per application

• Grants Catalogue: Up to $25,000 per request

The foundation may provide full or partial funding. Funding is not guaranteed. 

Does the funding support accessible or mobile service vehicles?

The current guidelines do not clearly name wheelchair vans, mobile medical units or mobile outreach vans as approved expenses.

A vehicle may still be considered when it is essential to a strong community project, but the organization should confirm eligibility before applying. Reviewing mobile medical van costs can also help build a realistic budget.

• Grants Catalogue: July 31, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

• Community Vitality: Applications are expected to open in November 2026. The closing date has not yet been posted.
