Finding the Ram ProMaster Jumpstart Posts
If you need to jumpstart your Ram ProMaster, the first thing to know is where the battery is actually located. It is up front, under a panel in the floor near the driver’s seat. The good news is that you do not need to access the battery directly to jumpstart it. Ram gives you two jumpstart posts near the front of the vehicle under the hood, and that is the recommended place to jumpstart your ProMaster.

Preparing the Van Before a Jumpstart
Before you connect anything, pop the hood and make sure the vehicle is turned off. The parking brake should also be set before you begin. Keep your hands clear of the cooling fan while you are working under the hood. It can turn on at any time, so it is important to stay clear of that area while connecting the cables.
37
Connecting Jumper Cables in the Right Order
The jumper cables should be connected in a specific order. First, connect the red cable to your Ram ProMaster. Then connect the other red cable to the donor battery. Next, connect the black cable to the donor battery. Finally, connect the other black cable to your Ram ProMaster. Under the hood, the positive connection is on the right side under a black cover. Pop that cover open, and you will see the metal post where the red cable attaches. The ground post is located to the right of the air intake. That is where the black cable attaches. In simple terms, red goes to the positive post, and black goes to the ground post.

Starting the ProMaster After the Cables Are Connected
If you are using a portable jump box, connect the cables first, then turn the jump box on. You should see a green light that lets you know it is connected properly. If you are using another vehicle to jumpstart your ProMaster, connect the cables first, then start the second vehicle. Let it run for about 1 to 2 minutes so it can build up enough charge for your vehicle to turn over. After that, climb into the ProMaster and start the van. Once it fires up, you are good to go. As a reminder, connect red to the Ram ProMaster first, then red to the donor vehicle. Connect black to the donor vehicle, then black to the Ram ProMaster. Start the donor vehicle, wait 1 to 2 minutes, then start your Ram ProMaster. When you are finished, disconnect the cables in reverse order.

Knowing When the Battery Needs Service
If you notice that you are having to jumpstart your ProMaster often, it may be time to have the battery and vehicle checked. A jumpstart can help get the van going, but repeated jumpstarts may point to a battery or vehicle issue that needs service. You can reach out to schedule a vehicle servicing if this keeps happening.
