What Is Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund?

The Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) is a Government of Canada program that helps make communities and workplaces easier to access for people with disabilities. It gives money to eligible groups so they can build, fix, or improve things that remove barriers and create more inclusion. 

 

Who is eligible for the Enabling Accessibility Fund?

Eligible organizations include:

 

  • For-profit businesses with fewer than 100 employees that serve or hire persons with disabilities. 

 

  • Small municipalities (often under 50,000 people). 

 

  • Indigenous organizations and governments. 

 

  • Territorial governments. 

 

This means lots of different groups can apply if their work helps make the community or workplace more accessible. 

 

 

What are the conditions of the Enabling Accessibility fund?

 

  • It can include construction, renovation, retrofits, and accessibility technology.

 

  • It must take place in a community space or workplace where persons with disabilities will benefit. 

 

  • Applicants usually get only one chance to apply under each funding stream per business number. 

 

  • Projects that work on motor vehicles or purely cosmetic improvements are not eligible. 

 

How much funding is available?

  • Small projects can get up to $200,000 to improve accessibility. 

 

  • Larger construction or mid-sized projects can receive up to $3 million. 

 

  • Some specific intake cycles (like the 2026 call) focus on projects receiving $500,000 to $1,000,000. 

 

These amounts help cover the costs of renovating spaces, installing ramps, technology, and other accessibility features.

 

Does the Enabling Accessibility Fund support accessible vehicles?

No. This fund does not pay for accessible vehicles like vans or buses. It is focused on improving buildings and physical spaces where people work and gather. 

 

 

Deadline dates to know

For the 2026 Call for Proposals, applications are open January 16, 2026, to March 12, 202,6 at 3:00 pm EST.
