How Mobile Clinic Solar Panels Generate Power
If your mobile clinic has been customized with solar panels, they’re already built into the vehicle’s electrical system. The panels are passive, which means they will produce power automatically when given sunlight. In this video, I’m going to show you exactly how your solar system works. Your mobile clinic has two solar panels mounted on the roof. Each panel is rated at 200 watts for a total of 400 and about 48 volts. Solar charges your battery throughout the day if your switch is on.

What Affects Solar Panel Power Output
Strong, direct sunlight produces the most power. Shade, clouds, angle of the sun, or dirt on the panels can all change the output of the solar. Solar is not meant to be your only power source. It works alongside your batteries, shore power, and inverter to support your clinic’s electrical loads. A load is anything using power inside the van, including lights, DC systems, switches, and anything that takes power from the van.

How to Turn Mobile Clinic Solar Charging On
To get power from your solar panels to the vehicle, you’ll first need to locate the red switch. When the red switch is turned on, the load is connected, and solar will be able to help support the clinic’s usage. When the red switch is off, the path is disrupted, and the solar cannot connect to the conversion battery. When the red switch is turned off, this also means the solar is not charging your conversion battery. In order to charge the clinic’s battery, you need to ensure the red switch is turned on.

How to Charge Your Mobile Clinic Battery Using Solar Panels
When you’re wanting to charge your conversion battery solely using your solar panels, please ensure that all electrical components such as lights and anything plugged into the outlets are turned off to conserve the battery and let it build.

How Solar Panels Support Your Mobile Clinic Throughout the Day
Shore power works a bit differently. It charges the battery and provides AC output, no matter if the red switch is turned on or off. So when shore power is available, use it. It’s the most reliable way to keep everything charged and running. And remember, solar helps support your power load throughout the day when the sun is available. But it doesn’t create unlimited power on its own. If you notice any unusual performance or have questions about this, please reach out to our customer care team.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Do the solar panels on a mobile clinic work automatically?

Yes. The solar panels are passive and produce power automatically when sunlight is available. The red switch must be turned on for that solar power to reach and help charge the conversion battery.

2. How much power do the mobile clinic solar panels produce?

The mobile clinic in this video has two roof-mounted solar panels rated at 200 watts each, for a total of 400 watts and about 48 volts.

3. What can reduce solar panel performance on a mobile clinic?

Shade, cloud cover, the angle of the sun, and dirt on the panels can all reduce solar output. Strong, direct sunlight produces the most power.

4. Can solar panels power the mobile clinic by themselves?

Solar is not intended to be the clinic’s only power source. It works alongside the batteries, shore power, and inverter to help support electrical loads throughout the day.

5. Should electrical equipment be turned off while charging the clinic with solar?

Yes, when you are trying to charge the conversion battery using only solar power, turn off lights and anything plugged into the outlets so more of the available solar power can go toward charging the battery.
