It gives patients and staff a covered space outside the van.<\/p>\n<h4>Key Points<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Take it slow whenever you open or close the awning.<\/li>\n<li>The crank handle is stored on the partition behind the driver&#8217;s seat. Hook it onto the awning loop at a 90-degree angle so it can&#8217;t scratch the paint or wrap.<\/li>\n<li>Crank the awning out slowly. When it&#8217;s about a metre out (a little over three feet), stop and lower the support legs, then crank it out the rest of the way.<\/li>\n<li>Before you start seeing patients, set both legs to the same height and anchor them with the hooks or stakes that come with the awning. Use tie-downs too if you have them.<\/li>\n<li>Wind can pick up fast, especially in open spaces. If strong wind, heavy rain or snow is coming, close the awning.<\/li>\n<li>If it starts raining and you need the awning out a little longer, lower one side slightly so the water runs off instead of pooling on top.<\/li>\n<li>To close it, take the anchors out and raise the support legs. Make sure the feet of the legs sit properly inside the lead bar housing, or the awning won&#8217;t close properly. Then crank it in slowly and check that it&#8217;s fully shut before you drive away.<\/li>\n<li>If you put the awning away wet, open it back up within 12 hours to let it dry.
