A wheelchair accessible van can mean the difference between someone staying connected to their community or staying home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without reliable transportation, people can miss appointments, lose independence, and feel isolated from the people and places that matter most. In fact, nearly two-thirds of Canadians with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/programs\/accessible-canada.html?\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">disabilities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who used federally regulated transportation faced barriers. Their work is built around a simple idea. Everyone deserves the chance to belong, grow, build relationships, and take part in everyday life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For many people, that can mean having support at home, help finding a job, opportunities to volunteer, or a way to stay active and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.movemobility.ca\/fr\/ressources\/community-wheelchair-accessible-vans\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">connected in the community<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. enVision focuses on meeting each person where they are and building support around their goals, interests, and needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their values are easy to understand and even easier to respect:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Integrity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Doing the right thing for the people they support.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Empathy:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Understanding what people need and treating them with care.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Respect:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Helping people live with dignity, choice, and independence.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>How does enVision support people?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/envisioncl.com\/about-us\/?\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enVision<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offers a wide range of services across southeastern Manitoba, including communities like Steinbach, Niverville, Ste. Anne, St. Pierre, and La Broquerie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their residential services support people who may need help with daily living. Some people live on their own with a few hours of support each week. Others may need staff available around the clock. In every case, the goal stays the same. Help people become as independent as possible while staying connected to family, friends, and their community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They also offer:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Day programs:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Focused on personal growth, recreation, skill building, and social connection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Retirement programs:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Giving older adults opportunities to stay active, volunteer, and spend time with friends.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Supported independent living:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Helping people manage things like budgeting, cooking, laundry, and home care.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Shared living options:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Matching people with families or caregivers in a home setting.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Respite services:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Giving families a break while making sure their loved one still has safe and meaningful support.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Employment services:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Helping people find jobs, build confidence, and become active members of the workforce.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Why is their work so important?<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you look at everything enVision does, one thing becomes very clear. Their work is about much more than support services. It is about creating opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Someone may need transportation to get to work each day. Another person may need help getting to a volunteer position, a swimming lesson, or a visit with family. A person in a retirement program may want to spend the day at a community event instead of staying home. Those moments may seem small from the outside, but they can have a huge impact on someone&#8217;s confidence, independence, and quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s where accessible transportation becomes such an important part of the picture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A wheelchair accessible van gives organizations like enVision the ability to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.movemobility.ca\/fr\/ressources\/wheelchair-accessible-vehicle-solutions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">help more people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> get where they want and need to go. It creates more flexibility for staff, more freedom for participants, and more chances for people to stay connected to the world around them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, it helps to understand the transportation challenge enVision was facing before their new van arrived.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What challenge was enVision facing?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As much as accessible transportation can open doors, older vehicles can slowly start to close them again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For organizations like enVision Community Living, transportation plays a big role in daily life. People rely on it to get to work, attend programs, visit family, go shopping, volunteer, and take part in community activities. When a vehicle starts to age, it can make those trips harder than they need to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis vehicle was purchased to replace an older version.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Shilesa Mackay, Manager &amp; Transportation<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That statement says a lot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know how difficult it can be to keep an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.movemobility.ca\/fr\/ressources\/reparation-ou-remplacement-dun-fourgon-pour-fauteuils-roulants-avantages-et-inconvenients\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">older wheelchair accessible van<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the road. Over time, older vehicles can become less reliable and less comfortable for the people riding in them. Rides may feel bumpier. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.movemobility.ca\/fr\/ressources\/comment-fixer-un-fauteuil-roulant-dans-une-camionnette\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wheelchair tie-down systems<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can feel dated. Even the little things, like extra road noise or tighter interior layouts, can make a long day feel even longer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For staff, an older van can also create added stress. They decided to purchase the P4 wheelchair van in the fall of 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What does a day in the life look like with the new wheelchair van?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every day looks a little different at enVision Community Living, and that is exactly why reliable transportation matters so much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some people may be heading to work. Others might be on their way to a volunteer position, a recreational activity, a medical appointment, or a visit with family and friends. For older adults in retirement programs, it could mean getting out for coffee, shopping, or a community event.
