use of substances and respond to medical needs as they arise.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People using substances can come in and do what they need to in a clean, sterile, and safe environment, away from parks, playgrounds, and other public spaces.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An overdose prevention van provides sterile injection equipment that can:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promote safe injecting practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce needle sharing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prevent transmission of viruses and infections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prevent overdoses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Public health responses often focus on large urban centers, while mid-sized and small communities face the same challenges\u2013such as the growing opioid epidemic\u2013with fewer resources.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Mobile Mitigation Van can help you meet your patients where they are when a permanent location isn\u2019t an option or doesn\u2019t meet your patients\u2019 needs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How are overdose prevention vans used?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Overdose prevention vans can be used by outreach organizations, mobile overdose prevention programs, and harm reduction programs in many different ways, but the most common is to use them as a supervised consumption site.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supervised consumption sites \u201chelp to save lives, connect people to social services, and serve as pathways to treatment\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/health-canada\/services\/substance-use\/supervised-consumption-sites\/explained.html#a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Government of Canada website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what does this actually look like?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, a person will bring their drug to an overdose prevention van to consume.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The drug is injected, snorted, inhaled, or consumed as pills and trained staff (either nursing staff, social workers, or peer and community workers) will monitor the person and be available to provide medical help if there is an accidental overdose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5685449\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A 2017 clinical study focused on the success of supervised consumption sites from the University of Alberta<\/a> found that supervised consumption sites decrease the amount of ambulance calls for treating overdoses by 67%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the advantages of having an overdose prevention van?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many advantages to getting an overdose prevention van for your organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.
